Sustaining Discussions by Notifications on Comments
[ Kategori : Blogging ]
I just added the ability to subscribe to notifications of new comments to an entry.
What does a feature like that do to the communication around an entry?
Often I drop a comment somewhere and then forget about it. Sometimes this is a violation of a social contract:
1. I read a post on A's blog and ask a question
2. A answers the question and/or elaborates on the topic
3. I never return.
That's not a problem anymore.
Besides this the functionality sustains the discussion, keeping response times to a minimum and providing pushed updates not only to the weblog owner but also the peer commenters.
As a last little bonus thing the notifications are easily unsubscribeable.
I think it's important to recognize that a feature like this actually makes a commenting function more social. It is not mere techno fascination.

Om at lave penge på blogging [DK]
[ Kategori : Dansk ]
Annoncering -- f.eks.
Betaling for indhold m. f.eks. paypal
/many på politikens bagside.
Over and out.
[ Kategori : Dansk ]
links hos Gøtze - en masse gode tech/blog links. Start her agtigt.
Rss Feed Validator - jaeh.
Pollas Mblog
mail2entry - python script der piper emails ind i Movable Type. Pissesvært, hvis du spørger mig. Har prøvet at implementere det for Pollas.
Nucleus cms - jaeh igen.

Danske nyhedsfeeds [DK]
[ Kategori : Dansk ]
Danske nyheder i RSS/RDF format
Go! go! go!

Exclusive Blogging Defined
[ Kategori : Blogging ]
Troels Arvin has entered the blogosphere with one of the most exclusive blogs ever. I think.
The thing is that
It's only available on IPv6 and only when my laptop is onAnd I haven't really seen it, as the IPv6 thing doesn't work for me. I think.
But he says that he's had 8 comments so far.
I feel that I'm on one of the lower levels of wisdom and only by achieving the proper knowledge I will be able to ascend into the secret chamber and eventually be united with The God of Tech
Enter Arvin's Church of Techno Gnosticism! Yehaa!

No Master and No Slaves
[ Kategori : Blah Blah ]
[A] recent example included the manufacturer's labeling of equipment where the words "Master/Slave" appeared to identify the primary and secondary sources. Based on the cultural diversity and sensitivity of Los Angeles County, this is not an acceptable identification label.Hm. Grace Jones should be banned for her "Slave to the rythm." Not to mention "Master and Servants." Me thinks this list could grow quite long...
Oh yes, the very important personal opinion on all things posted: This is silly.

Self Imaginary Key Control
[ Kategori : Blah Blah ]
Five subconscious keystrokes at images.google.com is the key that will unlock your inner resources
I hereby present you the new killer personal expansion technology:
Self Imaginary Key ControlTM
Random type 5-10 keys and the resulting images will represent your past self, your present self and your future self.
Where do the images come from?
I have linked these images to their original source, but this technology relies on image analysis only!
I cannot stress this enough, as many of my regular customers seem to interpret the context of the images.
Repeat after me: Context is noise and noise only!
So how does this work?
Everything is connected to us as we are connected to everything.
Everything is connected to everything.
The past is connected to the future through the present.
Google mediates some of these connections and works as an interface to the subconscious.
This prototype still need some adjustment. This is the result of a personal session with 'mxsc-'.
Most connections are not yet covered by Google, so I encourage you to try a few times - and eventually your mind will unfold.
Remember: this method should not be used without the proper guidance.
Contact me for further details on training sessions.

Firebird as a Power Tool - Part Deux
[ Kategori : Teknologi ]
Disclaimer: Buckle up for some tech or hit your back button.
In Using Firebird as a Power Tool I showed how to use the keyword feature in the Firebird browser to interface with external website tools.
But if you have the skills to write small scripts in PHP, Perl, ASP, JSP or any other scripting language you can do serious stuff.
Here goes:
I extended my referer script with a filter file listing domains that should be excluded from my referers (as a response to fake weblogs and other referer spam)
However, this list should be easy to maintain -- the adding and removing of domains should be so easy as possible, and I found that an administrative web frontend would be overkill, requiring too many steps which in turn would keep me from using it.
The solution: write a simple script like addToIgnoreList and use firebird as a command-line interface. This is php but it should be easy to grasp the idea and port it to other scripting languages.
Standard invocation of the script works like this:
adding: http://mydomain/myadmin/addToIgnoreList.php?action=add&&domain=http://evildomain.com
removing: http://mydomain/myadmin/addToIgnoreList.php?action=remove&domain=http://evildomain.com
Now the firebird:
Of course you put your script in a password protected directory...
And the filter-file should have the correct write permissions (chmod 644 should do ?)
This is just a simple example of using the address-line of Firebird as an administrative interface:
ban http://evildomain.com -- adds the domain to my ignore list.
unban http://evildomain.com -- removes the domain.
Statement: There is no need to cook up complex solutions for simple tasks.

Meet The Masturbator
[ Kategori : Blah Blah ]
Go pick up a mirror and align it with your screen. Enlarge the image. Close your eyes and shuffle your monitor and the mirror a few times or until you've lost track of which is which. Now open your eyes and point yourself out. It is not as easy as you might think.
The appearance of the masturbator in the late 1700s
A masturbator as described in a book on how diseases are reflected in the appearance of the patients: recognizable by his pale, sunken face, rings around the eyes. He has a gloomy look, and finds it difficult to look people straight in the eye. The severe cases include cramps, twitching throughout the body, epilepsy and paralysis. (K.H. Baumgärtner: Physiognomice Pathologica. Kranken Physionomik (Stuttgart 1842)
I found it in Copenhagen - Gateway to Europe (Part 1-3). I have no idea why this 1996 exhibition is put online - it looks as if they have published the labels but not the pictures and as such I think it's next to useless. Well, apart from our friend here.
Bloglines Search Feeds
[ Kategori : Blogging ]
A new feature of Bloglines is the ability to subscribe to a search feed.
I have set up a search for 'copenhagen' and when any of the 41,509 registered feeds are updated with a post containing 'copenhagen' the entry shows up in my filtered copenhagen search feed.
Or you can limit the search to your own subscriptions only.
Either way it's cool.
